The “Ben” Flapper
Valve Mod Cover
After you have
removed the flapper valve from your snorkel on the RC-51, you need to cover the
little guy up somehow. Instead of spending $20 + for a Kyle cover or other name
brand CNC machined piece, I went the cheap-o route.
The first step is
to acquire one of these little 1 ˝” covers from local home improvement stores.
I found this one from Lowe’s for about $1.15.

Second step is to
bend all the tabs in close to the underside except two of them on opposing
sides.

Step three is to silicone
a little bit around the edge of the hole where the flapper used to go and
insert your little cover into the hole.

Fourth Step is bend
all the other tabs up so it helps hold this little guy in place and then run an
extra bead of silicone through the inside of the snorkel. Is it pretty? No. But
then again, it doesn’t have to be to work…

Step five is the
finished product. I was thinking of roughing up the outside of the chrome and
murdering it flat, but think I’ll leave it chrome for now. All this for $1.15
and some silicone I had in my shop. Good times.
